Jamie hosted this event with (above and below) Kimberly Williams Paisley
Jamie and Kimberly opened the benefit with this statement ...
“It was two weeks ago today that Nashville and surrounding areas were hit with a devastating flood, the likes have which
haven’t been seen in a thousand years. For two straight days, the skies opened up and poured nearly 20 inches of rain
— first the creeks rose, then the Cumberland, Harpeth and Stones Rivers out of their banks, reaching record levels. The floods caused
an estimated $1.5 billion in damage, and most tragically, dozens of people lost their lives.”
A note from the webmaster:
The people of middle Tennessee began helping each other deal with the devastation this flood has caused, even as it was happening.
And it's a good thing that they're good people, who believe in reaching out to each other, because they've have virtually no media coverage of
what's been happening there and practically no one, outside of members from their own community, have been offering them any kind of assistance
- either financially, or by volunteering to help with the work of cleaning up. It almost seems as though they're being punished for
being the kind of hearty, self-sufficient people who put their trust in God and then proceeded to build this country.
Personally, I'm proud of these people for not abandoning their homes; for setting their grief aside, staying and immediately starting to clean-up
their towns and communities; for not letting themselves become bitter or overwhelmed, in spite of the tragedy that they've suffered; and most of
all, for showing the rest of
this country, and the world, the stuff of which real Americans are made.
I made my donation. Will you?
You can do it HERE.
And thanks in advance for the helping hand. --- Sandi :-)
